I love the holidays and every year I think it would be fun to do an advent calendar, yet I never get around to it. 🙁 This year, I am planning ahead and have decided to do a small advent calendar for Eben, Mr. Sweet Greens and one with fun ways to celebrate each day together in December. Am I going a little overboard?

I think all of these could be made using eco-friendly, recycled materials – now I just have to decide how I want to make ours. I promise to share the results!
Does your family celebrate December with an advent calendar? What kind?
We are a reusable mug kind of family, we have different ones that we use for different beverages – insulated for coffee, tea and cocoa, one with large straws for organic smoothies and stainless steel or glass bottles for water.
Most of ours are simple – not like these brightly painted, fun, eco-friendly painted ceramic travel mugs from sew Zinski. They made me smile. I bet you wouldn’t forget your reusable mug if it looked like these + Sara, the designer uses toxic free paints.
Welcome to November! Can you believe this year is almost over? How does that make you feel? I like November, it seems laid back to me, the Halloween bustle has come and gone and I always look forward to the mister’s amazing Thanksgiving dinner – he is a pro!
November is all about entertaining, and I started to wonder – do you find that when the weather turns chilly, you entertain more at home? What are your favorite ways to do this? Do you have a supper club with friends? Long dinners at home with your family? I would love to hear your suggestions, because this November I would love to focus on simple, fun ways to make entertaining more eco-friendly. Your thoughts would be appreciated. 🙂
As I was changing the sheets on Eben’s bed this weekend, I realized that I never shared a photo tour of how his bed and desk turned out. If you remember, he had a loft-style bed with a desk underneath (above photo) which was great for utilizing the small space in a child’s bedroom. The problem, Eben really wanted to sleep with Noodles, our Pug, and there is no way a Pug can sleep in a loft bed.
When we moved into our new space, I didn’t want to purchase a new bedroom set for Eben – his bed was in great condition, and buying something new didn’t seem budget or eco-friendly. Instead, I asked Mr. Sweet Greens if there was any way that he could cut Eben’s loft bed and desk apart to make a regular bed (that Noodles could get into) and a desk. He looked at me like I was a tad crazy, but said he would give it a try. This is how it turned out.
Basically, he just cut the bed off right above the attached shelving unit and reattached the feet. Easy, peasy. Then, he cut down the desk top to fit into Eben’s new office space. This project was super easy to do, didn’t cost a penny – and the best part – now Eben can sleep with his bestie Pug every night. Win, win.
