Is Your Exercise Routine Actually Harmful to the Planet?

Exercise is good for you, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. However, your exercise routine can sometimes go over the top and be less than beneficial for your brain and body. And when you’re approaching your health and wellness from a green point of view, an in-depth exercise routine can even have effects on the environment around you! And that’s something we want to discuss today; is your exercise routine actually harmful? Let’s consider the possibility with the points below. 

It’s Causing You Pain

Being in pain while exercising feels natural, doesn’t it? Many people can feel like the pain is a good sign, and that it can mean your muscles and bones are doing their job to stretch and develop. However, aside from the usual aches and pains of going too far or holding a position for too long, exercise should not be hurting you. 

An exercise routine that causes pain is one of the biggest osteoporosis risk factors you’ll ever come across. You may need to see a doctor if your aches persist, and it’s never a bad thing to drop a move or two if your body is screaming at you about it! Take more frequent breaks, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, and don’t feel bad if you need to go home for the day. 

Missing a Session Causes Stress

Missing a session down the gym or with a personal trainer is fine – sometimes life gets in the way. But if missing out on these times makes you feel anxious and stressed, it could be a sign that exercise is starting to rule your life. It’s meant to be good for you, not make you feel worse in the long run! 

Exercise is often recommended to help handle mental health issues, but if you’re feeling worse because you can’t go jogging for a half-hour, it might be time to book in with a counselor. You may need more help than you first realized; exercise can reduce the symptoms of certain conditions, but it’s not a way to beat them back completely. 

The Equipment You Use Could Be Harming the Planet

How many times do you hit the gym during the week? And whilst you’re there, how many different pieces of equipment do you use? Because the more energy you take up doing spin cycle classes or running on treadmills could in fact contribute to harming the planet. 

You can give off quite a few more carbon emissions than you realize during an exercise routine. It’s better to save these extensive gym sessions for once or twice a week, and use your natural body and the great outdoors in the meantime. Going for a run or a swim can be just as effective! 

An overactive exercise routine can be very bad for you. Make sure you’re not overusing equipment, and that you’re not experiencing any extraneous pain during a workout. Both your body and the great outdoors will thank you!
