I Want to Live In a Cob House

The mister keeps telling me that he is going to build us a house in the woods. I recently told him about a cob house that I had seen – he was intrigued. A cob house? Yes, cob is a centuries-old method of building with earth, straw, and other natural fibers. The cob is mixed by foot and applied in globs (a.k.a. cobs). Cob homes can be very creative because building with cob is so free form – think of a hobbit house. You can make arches and niches quite easily and the finished product looks so organic.  Plus, it dovetails seamlessly with the other eco-friendly tactics we use to keep our carbon footprint down, such as utilizing different types of reusable bags and recycling. With a cob house, our efforts would be even more helpful to the planet!

Would you live in a cob house?

Lovely home isn’t it. It’s included in this collection:

I LOVE cob houses, and it’s my dream to live in one, too!

That’s a really beautiful house. I wouldn’t mind living in one, as long as I have a huge backyard to enjoy with it. I’d be happy to live in just about any house, as long as it’s my own house, and not rented from someone.

    Hi nfmgirl,
Yeah. Wouldn’t it be lovely to live in a cob house and enjoy nature all around?

That sweet house reminds me of a mushroom. I would love a cob house or a straw bale house.

    HI Little Purple Room,
I agree. That is the first thing that I thought when I saw it. It looks like a mushroom. I love that.
    xo.
