Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

I am really enjoying Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. And it isn’t just because Jamie has super cute hair and a fabulous accent. {Ok, that is part of it.} Jamie wants to completely overhaul the American school lunch program by bring in fresh whole foods. Fantastic.

Eben has never eaten school lunch before and it is for all of the reason’s that Jamie’s Food Revolution exposes. Reason’s such as, french fries categorized as ‘vegetables’ or milk that is pink or brown. In fact, in our home we use ‘school lunch’ as leverage. If Eben doesn’t eat his delicious lunch that we pack for him {usually because he chats more than he eats at lunchtime}, we say, ” If you aren’t going to eat the lunch that we packed for you, then you will have to eat school lunch.” This completely freaks him out, and rarely will he bring home a lunch box full of food.

Even if you send your child off to school each morning with a healthy and yummy lunch, there are other lessons that you can learn from Jamie. Lessons such as the importance of knowing what is in your food, spending time with your family enjoying food and that even elementary aged children should use a knife to cut up their own food.

How about you lovely readers, do you watch Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution?
What do you think of it?
Are you learning anything new?

If you haven’t had a chance to watch it, you can catch up on the episodes here. The trailer is below. You can also learn more about Jamie’s campaigns here.

Glee Gum Review and Giveaway

Who doesn’t love gum? Eben and I recently received a package from Glee Gum full of different flavors of their fantastic natural gum and we were intrigued. Natural? You heard me right. Glee Gum is completely all-natural, with no preservatives, artificial flavorings, or colorings. Isn’t that fantastic?

Eben and I really enjoyed the Glee Gum, in fact, it didn’t last long. Now whenever we go marketing Eben always asks to get a pack or two of it. We found it at Whole Foods. We also received a Make Your Own Gum Kit, which was tons of messy fun. Wouldn’t the make your own gum kits be perfect for a birthday party, school classroom activity or sleepover?

Glee Gum has been so fantastic to give THREE of my lovely readers a 3 pack of Glee Gum and Coupon.

Vegan Valentine’s Day Goodies from Pattycake Bakery

Are you planning on giving that special someone you love a little treat this Valentine’s Day? Or does your special someone want a treat that doesn’t hurt the environment? Is your sweetie vegan? Do you have a chocolate love, cookie monster or muffin fanatic on your Valentine’s Day List?

If so, then Pattycake Bakery is your sweet treat spot. We recently received a box full of goodies from The Pattycake Bakery and our initial thought was that the treats looked delicious. And guess what? They tasted even better than they looked. Eben and I really, really enjoyed the Seriously Good Chocolate Cupcake, it was, well, Seriously good. It was definitely the best chocolate cupcake I have ever tasted. This cupcake is huge, moist and has the most lovely rich chocolate frosting. Heaven in a cupcake, really. We also loved the conversation heart cut out cookie. Again this cookie was very moist and yummy. I also love the messages on the cookie, especially the I {heart} your mustache cookie. How fun is that?

Eben is an absolute muffin man so the Marry Me Blueberry Muffin and Pumpkin Walnut Muffin were definitely his thing. They are large, fluffy and fantastic.
Don’t believe that Eben loves, loves, loves a muffin? Let me show you how MUCH he loves a muffin.

Wouldn’t these make a lovely addition to your Valentine’s Day brunch?

* A big thank you to Pattycake Bakery for sending us the goodies and a lovely hug to Angie for telling me about Pattycake Bakery.

Have a Lovely Green Weekend + A Few Green Things

Hello, Friends! How was your week? Did you do anything fun during the long weekend? We took our dogs and went on another winter family hike. We was a lovely day and being outdoors together is always one of our favorites pass times.

The mister and I also finally watched Food. Inc,. Have you seen it? I think it is a fantastic documentary with a lot of wonderful information and very well done. We have watched many documentaries on the food industry and the environment, so we were already aware of what the movie had to say. Another great food documentary is ‘The Future of Food’. If you haven’t seen either of these documentaries, I highly recommend them both.
Food, Inc. reminded us that we also have a lot of food products in our home that we don’t necessarily know where it comes from. And that WE do have a say about what we eat and how and where it is produced. Remember, every time you purchase a food item, you are voting with your money, so vote well.

With that in mind, we have decided to start buying as much of our fruits, veggies, eggs, bread and poultry from our local family farm, Grant Family Farm. Grant Family Farm has a wonderful CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) that we are going to look into joining this weekend. We think that knowing exactly where and how our food is grown is super important. We want Eben to see the chickens laying the eggs and roaming around the farm grounds. We want him to understand how and where our food is grown and how important this is to both our health and the health of the environment. We want our family to have a stronger connected with our community, the environment, the animals and our food, so we have decided to go for it.

How about you lovely readers, do you support your local family farm?
Are you a member of a CSA?

Also, here are a few green things from around the interwebz:

– Which pillow.pillow.pillow do you love. love. love?
– Who would you surprise on Valentine’s Day with a lovely little gnome?
– Have you entered to win a set of Little Green Books?
– Plus, there is still time to enter to Win! A SodaStream, SnapWare Collection and Eco friendly Stationary.
Have a lovely green weekend, I will see you back here on Monday.

xo,
Sweet Greens
