Earth Friendly Etsy: Wood Elements Giveaway

Can you believe it is already the middle of September? Can you believe that the winter holidays are right around the corner? I myself, can not. Usually, I have finished all of my holiday shopping by now, but somehow I have simply been too busy to even start my list. I like to get the holiday shopping done early so that I don’t have to deal with the mad crowds or run into the problem of not being able to find what I need. There are some fabulous gift ideas available on Etsy and I thought that I would start to share some with you.

This week’s Earth Friendly Etsy Shop is Wood Elements. Wood Elements is a lovely shop owned and operated by Jackie and Sally Johnson in Nashville, TN. Jackie is an artist and designer who has always enjoyed “making things”. Creation has been an integral part of his being as far back as he can remember. Wood Elements is full of lovely hand-turned wooden gifts that would be perfect for the upcoming holidays. My favorites are the pepper mills, bowls and rolling pins. The designs are simple but absolutely lovely. I can think of several people on my holiday list who would love an item from Wood Elements. The best part is all of the items are heirloom quality, so they could be handed down generation after generation. Wood Elements has items that would be fab for any occassion; engagements, weddings, birthdays, baby showers and holidays.
To help you get your holiday shopping started, Wood Elements has been so sweet to offer ONE of my lovely readers a small french rolling pin. These french rolling pins are Heirloom-quality and will be in your family for years and years to come. You will have so much fun rolling out dough for your favorite biscuits or rolls with this lovely find.

An Eco-Friendly Mini Advent Calendar

When I was a little girl, my grandma would always buy us little chocolate advent calendars. Do you remember these? They had a little door for each day of December that you could open to find a chocolate inside. I was horrible, I would always eat the candy in advance.

I saw this lovely and tiny advent calendar from Pinkerton Design. Isn’t it lovely? This is the perfect advent calendar for an adult, especially one like me that can’t be trusted around chocolate. Hurry and order so you can enjoy yours starting December 1st.

Did you have an advent calendar as a child?
Would you use one as an adult?

Earth Friendly Etsy: Andrew’s Reclaimed Giveaway

Andrew’s Reclaimed is back as this week’s Earth Friendly Etsy shop. Andrew’s Reclaimed is one of my favorite Etsy shops. I love, love, love all of the reclaimed wooden items in this lovely shop. I have talked about Andrew’s Reclaimed here and here and am so excited to have Andrew’s Reclaimed again this week. All of the items at Andrew’s Reclaimed are made exquisitely by hand from reclaimed woods that Andrew finds by dismantling and re-milling ages-old piers, fences, barns, and other structures slated for demolition. Lovely, no?

The craftsmanship in all of Andrew’s items is fabulous, I love the clean lines and smooth edges. You can find something for everyone on your holiday list at Andrew’s Reclaimed. Do you have a dog or bird lover on your holiday list? Check out Andrew’s Reclaimed beautiful elevated dog feeder or any one of his lovely bird feeders or houses. Do you have an avid gardener on your holiday list? Wouldn’t they love a beautiful arbor, trellis or planter box.

Andrew at Andrew’s Reclaimed is giving one of my lovely readers a fabulous cactus planter. It is 3″x 3″x 9″ stainless steel and made from reclaimed cedar wood. Add a trio of sweet little cactus’ and wouldn’t this make a lovely gift?

Would You Rent a Dog?

I love, love, love my dogs. They are a very important part of our family. We call them our girls. I really can’t imagine our lives without them. I think that pets can have a wonderful impact on a family. Since, I work at home I am able to spend a lot of time with them and we try to take them with us whenever we travel. But, what do you do if you really, really want a dog but aren’t able to give a dog the full attention that it deserves? What if you have a job that requires that your travel alot or for other reasons are away from home from extended periods of time? What about individuals who live in communities that don’t allow pets?

Did you know that you can rent a dog? I know, right? Super neat.

FLEXPETZ is a service that provides people who are unable to have a dog with local access to a variety of dogs. All of these lovely dogs have been rescued or rehomed, which is my favorite part of the service. These dogs are very lovable and fully trained. You can choose from a wide variety of breeds and sizes. Can’t you just see yourself playing with Pirate for the afternoon or weekend?
How much fun is that?

Green Your Thanksgiving With Recycled Centerpieces

I am trying to decide what type of table, centerpiece and name plates I want to set this year for Thanksgiving. We are having a full house (11 people to be exact) so I need a centerpiece that is simple, sweet and won’t take up too much room. I am in love with these adorable little flower arrangements in mismatched salt and pepper shakers from Sunday Suppers. Wouldn’t these be lovely with fall colored foliage, berries and flowers from my garden in them? A trip to my fave thrift store for shakers is an absolute now.

How are you decorating your Thanksgiving table?
