Eben has a fantastic bed – it is a bunk bed + desk combination from Ikea. We have had it since he was old enough to sleep in his own bed and it is the perfect solution for small spaces. The problem: he is now 10 and wants a bed that is lower to the ground because he wants Noodles and Lilly to sleep with him. (That should be interesting!) This is the solution that we have come up with: Mr. Sweet Greens is going to use an electric saw to cut the bed legs down to a regular bed height (maybe lower). We plan to use large bins underneath the bed for storage. Then, Mr. Sweet Greens is going to add three more legs to the desk portion and repurpose the bookshelf that is above the desk as a wall shelf. This way Eben will still have a desk, shelving and a bed that is lower to the ground. Thoughts?

It’s always nice to freshen up your home right in time for summer. However, buying new things to brighten up your home isn’t exactly eco-friendly. We have had our current Pottery Barn duvet cover and shams for 10 years. How can that be? Shouldn’t they be worn out by now? I swear Pottery Barn has the greatest long lasting textiles out there! Whenever I think that we need new bedding, we always come back to – why? Our current bedding is fine.
However, we are getting ready to move into our new space our duvet is starting to fade. I decided to purchase the Woodland Organic Duvet Cover and Shams from Pottery Barn – so that I could put our existing bedding on the guest bed. I love the Woodland bedding – great bright colors, organic and only $79? Who could ask for more?

We have a energy star, front loading washing and dryer set from Frigidaire that I ADORE. However, the door handle on the washer completely broke off during our move. And it wasn’t just the fact that the washer didn’t look pretty, but because the door handle was missing, a steady stream of water would drip out during the wash cycle. It’s not exactly conserving water!
I called a repair man to find out what the cost would be to replace the handle. Wowzers! It was going to cost almost as much as it would to just buy a new one! I didn’t want a new one, I wanted the washer that matches my dryer, not to mention, simply buying a new washer because the handle was broken seemed crazy. Then, I thought, I should replace the door handle myself, except I had no idea where I would find the right replacement piece.

My washer was in perfect condition, except for the broken door handle and now that it is replaced, it is like new again. Win. Win.
