How To Make Organic Perfume Rubs

Looking for a fun activity for the girls in your life? How about making your own perfume rubs? These are great to pop in your purse and pull out whenever you would like to smell pretty.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 C. beeswax
  • 3 tbsp. Jojoba
  • 65 drops of essential oil (my favorite for perfume, lavender)

Preparation:
Melt the beeswax, add the jojoba and essential oils. Stir and pour into small reusable containers. (I use empty lip balm jars) To apply, rub your finger over the wax and apply it to your body.

Natural Beauty: John Masters Organics

I have long hair. Ok, I have really long hair. My hair is almost down to the bottom of my back. Since I do have so much hair, I am always looking for great Organic hair products that won’t make my hair frizzy or poofy. (These are the two things that my hair loves to do, frizz or poof.) I am also a huge fan of organic body washes and lotions and I want beauty products that are good for me, good for the Earth and that work well.

I have been using John Masters Organics for a couple of months now and I am all around elated with their products. John Masters Organics has no harsh chemicals, uses only the finest botanicals and is considered to be the only luxury line for natural beauty that also has respect for the Earth. John Masters Organics has been making lovely beauty care products for over 20 years and has a fabulous line of over 30 products. I myself, would love to try them all.

I received the John Masters Organics Evening Primrose Shampoo, Citrus and Neroli Detangler, Sweet Orange and Silk Protein Styling Gel, Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash and Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Milk. All of the products are fabulous and smell delicious.

My favorite products were the Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash and Body Milk, the Citrus and Neroli Detangler, the Shine On and the Sweet Orange and Silk Protein Styling Gel.

The Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash and Body Milk are lovely. The fragrance is amazing and soothing. Jayson always tell me how pretty I smell after I have showered with my John Masters Organics Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash.

The Citrus and Neroli Detangler is great because it takes all of the tangles out of my long hair, which is no easy feat and has a fabulous scent. This is also Eben’s favorite, since he has long hair as well.

The Shine On is an amazing leave in hair treatment that uses organic kelp to create incredible shine and softening. I liked that it didn’t weigh my hair down or leave it oily or dirty looking. It is a wonderful product that I use almost everyday.

The Sweet Orange and Silk Protein Styling Gel is great at smoothing your hair without the hard gel look. It looks very natural and clean, which I love.

You should give John Masters Organics and try for yourself. John Masters Organics is offering my readers 20% off any products from the John Masters Organics Haircare line now through June 30th. Simply enter the coupon code sg20 at checkout.

Enjoy and let me know what you think after using John Masters Organics.

Please send me your pics, I would love to see how the products are working for you.

Green Tips for Kids: Summer Swap Club

How many books, CDs, DVDs, board games and video games does your family own? If you are like most families, you probably have a whole library for each. Most of these items rarely get watched, listened to, played with, or read multiple times, so they just sit and collect dust. Our family stopped purchasing these types of items a long time ago. Instead, we visit our local library weekly and stock up on books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs. (We use our library’s online system to reserve items that we would like to see or read.)

You could also set up a swap club with your friends. You can swap books, CDs, DVDs, video games or board games. This way all of these items get used over and over but you also eliminate the making, packaging, and transporting of new items. It is a very Earth-friendly and fun way to upcycle. This would be super fun to do throughout the summer.

Do you swap?

Green Community: Help Someone See

Have you ever thought of what it would be like to not be able to see? I actually have, because, without my contacts or glass, I can not even see my hand in front of my face. (just a big blur) So to hear that 1 billion people in developing countries are in need of glasses but are unable to afford them (glasses would cost them 3 months’ worth of salary) breaks my heart. I can’t imagine being robbed of my eyesight simply because I couldn’t afford eyewear.

4 million pairs of eyeglasses are thrown away each year in North America. Instead of throwing away your old glasses, donate them to Unite For Sight. Unite for Sight is an international leader in providing eye care worldwide. If 50% of the children in institutions for the blind in Africa had eyeglasses, they would be able to read normal to large print. (Can you imagine that? children blind, simply because they can’t afford eyewear.)

Will you donate your glasses?

I just mailed my old (but in excellent condition) glasses off today.

How To Plant A Pizza Garden

For Eben’s 5th birthday, we planted a pizza garden. (Gosh, he was so little) This is a super fun activity for children and will cultivate their love for gardening. It is perfect for both young and older children.

At the time we lived in the woods in Georgia and didn’t have a garden established so we planted the pizza garden in containers on our patio. We planted several different types of tomatoes, onions, peppers, basil and oregano. Eben’s favorite part was planting the plants and then watering them each morning. It was fun to watch the plants grow and watch his excitement grow. The best part was harvesting the veggies and making our own pizzas from scratch. This was a great gift for Eben because he is now 8 and loves to garden. It has blossomed into a hobby that he really enjoys and looks forward to.

Would you plant a pizza garden?

Send me your gardening pics, I would love to share them with everyone.
