Earth Friendly Etsy: Ogsplosh Recycled Door Stopper Giveaway

It is starting to get chilly outside. Have you noticed? Yesterday, was the first day that I had to wear pants and a long sleeve shirt, even with all of those clothes on, I was still chilly. It seems like the sunny warm days disappear overnight and the cool Fall weather sets in. It is definitely time to start weather proofing your home, if you haven’t already. If you have a basement door or another door or window in your home that lets in a little draft, you need a draft stopper. A draft stopper is the perfect way to keep a room toasty and it saves energy as well.

This week’s Earth friendly Etsy shop is Ogsplosh. Ogsplosh is owned by Christine who makes fab draft stoppers, scarves, jewelry, neck warmers and hats in her Wisconsin home. Christine is the mother of two wonderful daughters ages 7 and 10. She moved to Wisconsin from England with her husband and says it is one of the best decisions that she ever made. She started sewing a few years ago when a friend taught her how. I love when friends help each other learn something new, what a lovely way to bond.

One of my fave items at Ogsplosh are the draft stoppers. I love the fun colors and my favorite feature is that the draft stoppers close with Velcro, so you can empty them and throw them in the wash. Which is great considering the draft stoppper would be on the floor or windowsill all day and would eventually get dirty or dusty. I also love that they come in an array of patterns and can be altered to fit any door that you need them for.

This week’s Earth friendly Etsy shop is Palm Tree Princess. This is a great giveaway for Moms to be, new Moms and nursing Moms – a set of natural nursing pads. Palm Tree Princess is owned and operated by Desiree in Hawaii. Desiree makes 100% natural nursing pads and many other clothing items too.

I love the idea of washable and reusable nursing pads, I wish I had thought of it during the many years that I nursed Eben. Desiree uses bright colors and fabulous prints that makes each set of nursing pads unique and fun. She also makes fabulous children’s clothing from upcycled materials. How to Make Your Own Organic Pizza Night + Recipes

A couple of times a month, usually Friday or Saturday night, my family has make your own organic pizza night. The mister makes the dough, prepares the toppings and helps everyone get those perfect round pizza dough shapes. He also makes me my very own homemade organic focaccia – it is amazing. Eben has a lot of fun spreading the pizza sauce and decorating his pizza with all of the different toppings. His favorite toppings are organic cheese, onions, green olives, black olives and tofu pepperoni. 
Sometimes he likes to make his look like a face which just makes me smile. It is a super fun tradition that we all look forward to and enjoy. It is so popular that whenever Eben has a friend spend the night, one of the first questions that they ask is, “Are we going to make our own pizzas tonight?” Shortly followed by, “Are we having Root Beer floats?” On family pizza night, we usually rent a family movie or watch a Nature program while enjoying our yummy homemade pizza.
Want to start your own Family Pizza Night?

What you will need:
  • pizza dough recipe (see below)
  • organic spaghetti sauce
  • cheese of choice
  • pizza toppings
  • rolling pin
  • pizza stone and pizza cutter
  • stand mixer (not necessary, but highly recommended)
  • 1 tbsp organic cornmeal (to sprinkle on the pizza stone before adding your dough)
  • cooling rack
What you will need for the pizza dough:
 

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 package organic yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. organic olive oil
  • 3 cups organic whole wheat flour
  • garlic salt, oregano and basil (if you are making focaccia)
Preparation:

1. If you have a pizza stone, heat it on the bottom rack in the oven at 500° for 1 hour. {If you don’t have a pizza stone, preheat the oven to 500° and cook your pizzas on a cookie sheet.}
2. To make the dough, dissolve yeast in warm water (105-115°), add salt and olive oil in a mixing bowl.
3. Let dough sit for 5 minutes then add the flour.
4. Mix the dough (we use a stand mixer, on low/medium speed with a dough hook) until it makes a firm but elastic ball. When you poke it with your finger, it should be pliable but not sticky. If too wet or too dry, add flour or water in 1 tsp. increments until you reach correct consistency.
5. Put the dough in a lightly greased and covered bowl to rise until it doubles in size. approximately 50 minutes)
6. Divide into 2 dough balls and roll flat with a rolling pin, then place on pizza wheel covered in cornmeal, add your sauce and all ingredients.
7. Bake the pizza at 500 degrees until hot and gooey (approximately 7-8 minutes)
8. Place the pizza on a cooling rack to cool.

Sweet Greens Focaccia
The above pizza dough recipe, drizzle organic extra virgin olive oil all over a pizza dough round, sprinkle with garlic salt, dried oregano and basil. Bake at 500° for approximately 7-8 minutes. 

Fab Green Find: Dr. Alkaitis Holistic Organic Skin Food Giveaway

When my skin is smooth and clear I feel so much more confident and ready to face the world. The hard part for me is finding one skin care line that does all the work for me. Since I have combination skin, I usually have to use several different product lines to get the results that I desire. That is not the case with Dr. Alkaitis Holistic Organic Skin Food. I received Dr. Alkaitis Holistic Organic Skin Food’s Trial Kit and I have been using the products for almost 4 weeks now (their website says that the trial kit will last 7-12 days, but I found that I didn’t need to use a lot, so it lasted longer for me) and I am overly impressed and surprised. This is the first time in a long time that I have had absolutely clear skin everywhere. I absolutely love the Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser and the Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil. I love that this skin care line is simple as there isn’t a different product line for skin type. It doesn’t matter if you have oily, dry, acne prone or combination skin because all skin types can use the same line. Dr. Alkaitis says that it isn’t necessary to use different products for different types of skin. I also love that the products are long lasting. The cleanser and toner lasted almost a month and I still have a lot of the other products left and will continue to use and enjoy them.

The reason that I love the Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil is because it works. I tend to get red blemishes that are very painful and noticeable. I add a small drop of the organic nourishing treatment oil to the blemishes before bedtime and when I wake up the blemishes are cleared. I think it is amazing that all of the products are biologically active and the base for all of the products is 100% organic Aloe Vera gel instead of water. The products are never older than 2 weeks old when they are shipped to you and everything is made in house. Dr Alkaitis‘ mantra is “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.”
