Yvette Inufio – Photography that is Speaking to Me Today

Does Yvette Inufio know that I am moving back to the sea? Since I have Florida on my mind, her photography is really speaking to me.

Isn’t it lovely and calming?
I can’t wait to visit the sea again.

Beautiful Organic Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado

Wednesday, I enjoyed spending the day with my neighbor. We took our boys marketing, to the water fountain playground and then spent the late afternoon and evening preparing and enjoying dinner together. It was a fun way to spend my last day in Colorado, being I move to Florida.

One of the things that I will miss the most about our neighborhood are the beautiful gardens in my neighbors yards.

Red, White, Blue and Green?

This 4th of July we are celebrating the with great friends. Our plans are to spend the day swimming in the pool, playing games, grilling on the patio and of course, fireworks. Usually backyard bashes are not Earth friendly because they usually include many non-Earth friendly items such as paper supplies and decorations. You can host a fab green 4th of July get together that is also Eco-conscious. Here are a few tips to help you out:

* Green Your Supplies:: Use reusable BPA free plates, cups, and cutlery and linens napkins or if you will be grilling away from home, purchase Eco-friendly and recyclable paper goods such as these from Preserve or compostable paper goods such as Bare By Solo. {thanks browneyedpea for the Bare By Solo Info}
* Green Your Beverages:: Choose Eco-friendly, Organic, and/or Bio-Dynamic beer and wine for the adults. {One of my favorite wines: Parducci’s Pinot Grigio} and Izzy’s for the kids with licorice straws.

* Green Your Outdoor Lighting:: Choose solar powered lanterns such as these cuties: Soji Pods or if it is a wind and rain free night, you could use beautiful beeswax candles like these from Big Dipper Wax Works.

* Make Your Own Green Food:: Making your own backyard bash menu not only tastes better but saves resources because you don’t have all of the packaging from store or restaurant foods to throw away at the end of the day.

* Green Your Sunscreen:: Try an Organic Sunscreen that is free from nasty chemicals that you should avoid. I really love Badger Lavender Sunscreen.
* Stay Close to Home:: Try to stick close to home or bike to your destination for the festivities. Not only will you save resources, but you will get a little exercise and won’t have to fight the busy holiday traffic.

What are your plans for the 4th of July?
Does your family have special traditions for the holiday?

Earth Friendly Etsy – Win A Recycled Song Bird Garland

I love garland, but who doesn’t, right? This week’s Earth Friendly Etsy Shop – Red or Gray Art features the loveliest recycled garland. Garland to hang across your mantle, above your windows or doors, or simple on a wall – garland anywhere is a good thing.

Red or Gray Art is owned by Elaine Kean in Dallas, Texas. Elaine has been crafting one of kind collages, mobiles, wall hangings, cards and my favorite garland in her kitchen since 2008. She loves to use recycled papers, old worn book pages, sheet music and scraps of fabric to create her lovely collection. Elaine is inspired by nature and loves to watch the birds playing in her backyard while she works. She is also inspired by the art of letter writing – which I love, love, love, I myself have a major love affair with handwritten letters.

A little more background on Elaine:

Elaine is married and has 2 daughters and a 12 year old rescue Golden Retriever. She finds happiness in music – She plays guitar and sings, chocolate and her camera. You can find her life in photos on her blog Red or Gray or on her daily black and white photo blog Red or Gray Black and White.

Elaine’s yard is a registered Texas Natural Space, which means that she plants a high percentage of plants that are native to her area. She is also a vegetarian, huge recycler, composter and water harvester. How fantastic is that?
