Red, White, Blue and Green?

This 4th of July we are celebrating the with great friends. Our plans are to spend the day swimming in the pool, playing games, grilling on the patio and of course, fireworks. Usually backyard bashes are not Earth friendly because they usually include many non-Earth friendly items such as paper supplies and decorations. You can host a fab green 4th of July get together that is also Eco-conscious. Here are a few tips to help you out:

* Green Your Supplies:: Use reusable BPA free plates, cups, and cutlery and linens napkins or if you will be grilling away from home, purchase Eco-friendly and recyclable paper goods such as these from Preserve or compostable paper goods such as Bare By Solo. {thanks browneyedpea for the Bare By Solo Info}
* Green Your Beverages:: Choose Eco-friendly, Organic, and/or Bio-Dynamic beer and wine for the adults. {One of my favorite wines: Parducci’s Pinot Grigio} and Izzy’s for the kids with licorice straws.

* Green Your Outdoor Lighting:: Choose solar powered lanterns such as these cuties: Soji Pods or if it is a wind and rain free night, you could use beautiful beeswax candles like these from Big Dipper Wax Works.

* Make Your Own Green Food:: Making your own backyard bash menu not only tastes better but saves resources because you don’t have all of the packaging from store or restaurant foods to throw away at the end of the day.

* Green Your Sunscreen:: Try an Organic Sunscreen that is free from nasty chemicals that you should avoid. I really love Badger Lavender Sunscreen.
* Stay Close to Home:: Try to stick close to home or bike to your destination for the festivities. Not only will you save resources, but you will get a little exercise and won’t have to fight the busy holiday traffic.

What are your plans for the 4th of July?
Does your family have special traditions for the holiday?
