Green Your Jewelry: Buy Vintage

Who doesn’t love a fabulous piece of jewelry? My favorite type of jewelry by far is vintage, better yet, vintage silver and turquoise. Besides being unique and gorgeous, vintage jewelry is fabulous and eco-friendly because it was made so long ago and there is no expense to the Earth now. You are simply loving something again that has been loved by generations before.

The mister’s Nana gave me a beautiful vintage silver and turquoise bracelet that she had in her jewelry box. I know she cherished it for many years and whenever I wear it I receive compliments – and most importantly I feel connected to her.

I love to scour thrift stores, tag sales, and estates sales for unique pieces that no one else will have. I love to imagine where the jewelry has been, who owned it, and what they did while wearing it. Can you imagine the stories that a vintage piece of jewelry could tell?

What is your favorite type of jewelry?

I too love vintage jewelry, I recently bought two vintage charm bracelets.

They are so interesting! The one bracelet has old class ring tops mounting to silver.

I love vintage jewelry and have pieces from my Mom and Grandmom and also from my own thrift store ventures. I also like to take broken jewelry and single earrings and refashion them into necklaces and belts. Cheap therapy for me and makes great gifts for friends and family. Thanks, SG, and I will let you know if I’m ever brave enough to post a pic.

I love vintage jewlery, my wedding ring (that I lost) was bought second hand from a vintage store, I love me new one but the first one made my heart all fluttery.

Hi Madonna, ooo, that is so sad you lost your first wedding ring. Well, I hope you are enjoying your new one.

PLUS the vintage jewelry is typically made with more of everything (metal stones care etc.) and not a mass-produced item. Its more likely to be handmade….so a story and quality.

Hi one4earth, Vintage jewelry definitely has more personality. I wouldn’t want something mass produced that everyone else is wearing.
