HOW TO: Make an Easy Recycled Ice Cream Churn

It was super-duper hot yesterday, here in Florida. So hot in fact, it was the perfect time for ice cream. Alas, we didn’t have any in our freezer. Since we were getting ready for an afternoon splash in the pool, it wasn’t a good time for a bicycle ride to the store. I then remembered making ice cream as a child in a coffee can. We didn’t have a coffee can available, but I was able to find a couple of can containers in our recycling bin. We spent the next 1/2 hour together making a simple, yummy vanilla ice cream that we enjoyed together before heading out to the pool. You can make ice cream with your children in your own recycled ice cream churn too.

Have a Lovely Green Weekend + A Few Green Things

Hello, Friends! What are your weekend plans? I am getting ready to look at a few homes. We decided that we want to continue to rent, because we just can’t make up our minds as to where exactly we want to live.{wink} We do know that we want to be closer to Eben’s school and the beach. I am looking at a townhouse today that is less than a mile from the beach and only a few miles from Eben’s school. Plus, it backs to a nature preserve. Can you imagine the views? We are definitely ready to move, so I have my fingers crossed that we will find something soon.

While I make my list of things that I want our new space to have, here are a few green things I thought you would enjoy:

– Have you ever wondered what a Paramo is? Super neat!
– Is your home healthy? These tips will help you find out!
– This sea grass is fantastic. Did you see the starfish?
Dolphins just make everything better.
– Super cute cake toppers!
– Another reason to make your own ice cream — wood pulp?
– Your child should be the mayor of this town!
– I am so jealous of Jordan’s trip to Le Boulanger des Invalides Jocteur!{intro photograph}

Have a super lovely green weekend, I will see you here on Monday.

xo,
Sweet Greens

HOW TO: Make a Recycled Pinwheel Toy

Spring days are always fun, but add a little wind to the weather and kids go wild. There is something about the wind blowing through their hair, the mystery in the air and zipping through the yard, arms extended, pretending to fly through the breeze. What could make a windy day more fun for your children? Pinwheels, of course! Pinwheels are perfect for windy days and they make for fun birthday party favors, too! You can make up a handful of pinwheels in a few short minutes and everything you need you can find in your craft closet and desk drawer. You can learn how to make these fun, windy day toys in a few short steps too!

HOW TO: Make Recycled Sand and Water Toys

Since we live in Florida a huge part of our free time to spent either playing in the sand at our local beach or splashing in the ocean or swimming pool. And what makes pool and beach time more fun? Sand and water toys, of course. Many of the sand and water toys that you will find at the store are made using flimsy (un-eco) plastic that easily cracks and breaks or they get lost or left at the pool – never to been seen again, and probably piling up in a landfill somewhere. So my son and I made a set of sand and water toys and everything we needed was in our recycling bin. The best part: If these toys get left behind at the pool or break – they can be tossed back into the recycling bin. Learn how to whip up a set of recycled sand and water toys for your kiddos.
