I need some suggestions. I have been making my own laundry detergent for a little over a year now, but I have noticed some of my things, mostly my hubby’s whites, aren’t getting as clean as I’d like them them to. I have used peroxide and vinegar, buy maybe I’m not using enough? HELP! Thank you, Ana

Great questions Ana. When my family switched to Eco friendly laundry solutions, we had the same problem. Mr. Sweet Greens wears only white polo shirts to work – so having his whites their brightest is a must! We tried vinegar and peroxide and also weren’t able to get our whites their whitest. Over the years, we have found a remedy that works well for us. We pretreat all of our whites with a squirt of Eco Me Emma Laundry Soap ( I added a spray nozzle to the top.) Then we wash with our regular Eco friendly laundry detergent and a scoop of Biokleen Oxygen Bleach Plus. And our whites are bright and white!

How about you greenie readers? Do you have a quick trick to get whites bright in the laundry? I would love to hear your quick laundry tips.

Family Project – Fall Leaf Cookies

Ok, these fall leaf cookies are definitely on the list of goodies that Eben and I must make. They remind me of our Autumn Family Trip to North Carolina. I think they would make a perfect Thanksgiving treat, agreed?

Stainless Steel Water Bottles – Good for the Earth, Bad for your Teeth?

Eben and I spent the better part of this morning at the dentist office. The reason – Eben chipped part of his left tooth on his stainless steel water bottle Friday afternoon. I have to admit, the thought of his stainless steel water bottle ever being a problem for his teeth never crossed my mind.

Do you think this was just a total bad luck moment? Or have you heard of other children chipping their teeth on stainless steel water bottles?

P.S. After a $165 dentist bill, I may switch him over to a BPA free plastic water bottle – just to be on the safe side!

Have a Lovely Green Halloween Weekend + A Few Green Things

Hello Everyone.

Happy Halloween Weekend! What are your weekend plans? Do you have your costume ready to go? Are you having or going to a Halloween Bash?

Today is Mr. Sweet Greens birthday. Yay. While Eben is enjoying himself at a fantastic Halloween party at the home of one of his classmates tonight – Mr. Sweet Greens and I will be celebrating his birthday with dinner on the beach. Fantastic.

We plan to wake up bright and early tomorrow to hit our Green Market. Mr. Sweet Greens plans to buy everything that we will need for our dinner menu next week and I can’t wait for the fresh baked breads and cheese. Yum. After the farmer’s market, we are having a birthday luncheon with Mr. Sweet Greens grandparents and aunt. His aunt is preparing the entire meal, what a great way to spend the afternoon.

Mr. Sweet Greens father is staying at our house Saturday night, so he can spend Sunday at the beach with us. Then, the part that Eben has been waiting for all month long – trick or treating with our favorite Florida friends, the Moras.

It sounds like a weekend jam packed with fun, no?

While I wrap up Mr. Sweet Greens birthday gifts, here are a few green things I have wanted to share with you:

Nothing New Halloween: Star Wars Jedi and Ash Ketchum from Pokemon

Happy Halloween Weekend. Are you ready for the big day? Eben’s school is celebrating the holiday by asking the children to dress up as their favorite storybook character. After much debate, Eben is going as a Jedi Master from the original Star Wars books. He has had this costume for years – he wore it to his Star Wars themed birthday party and to the theatre release of The Clone Wars. This authentic costume was made for a Star Wars video shoot – and since it was used, I was able to get a terrific deal on it via eBay. And since I keep all of Eben’s Halloween costumes, it will be handed down to his children one day.

P.S. I tried to convince him that he would make a fantastic Tom Sawyer for Storybook Character Day? He disagreed saying that he has to dress up as a storybook character – not a classic storybook character. And since his teacher liked the idea – that was that.

However, for trick or treating he really wanted to be Ash Ketchum from Pokemon. And since we try to not purchase anything new for his Halloween costumes, we made an Ash Ketchum costume using clothing pieces that we were able to find in his closet and felt and glue from my craft closet. It was fairly easy to put together and it gave Eben and I a reason to finally make a Pikachu stuffed toy.
