Madsen Cycle: Love For A Bucket Bike

I am really enjoying riding my bike everywhere this fall. So far we have ridden our bikes to the library to pick up some great summer reads, the grocery store to pick up groceries, the beach, and to enjoy lovely brunches and dinners on the patios of our favorite local restaurants. I really love my bike, but think it would be fabulous to have a bike that could hold everything that I need all at the same time.

This is why I would really love to have a Madsen Bike. Not to mention the fact that their bikes are fabulous. I think it would be the perfect bike for my lifestyle. I would put my Madsen Bike to work transporting library books, groceries, beach essentials, and Olive, our Frenchie would look quite dashing riding in the back. Not to mention they are a Utah company and I am from Salt Lake City!

Now how would I choose between turquoise and orange?

It’s that time of year, the mosquitoes are out and in full force. How can you protect yourself, your family, and your pets from these pesky creatures without spraying a toxic cocktail all over your body? Make your own bug spray, it is easy and will keep the mosquitoes away.

Ingredients:

Preparation:

Add all ingredients to a squirt bottle, mix well, and enjoy a night free of mosquitoes.

Green Tip: Remove Your Shoes

Taking your shoes off before walking into your home is a healthy habit for your family. This is a healthy habit because you won’t track in any guck, but most importantly because the bottom of your shoes is exposed to so many chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and toxins. You could have possibly walked through gasoline, soot, or any number of other toxins and when you crossed the grass, chances are you walked through pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides.

So next time you come home, remove your shoes for the safety of your family.

Do you take your shoes off before entering your home? The homes of others?

Green Health: What Are Your Essentials?

Do you use essential oils? Do you know how to use essential oils?

Essential oils are natural compounds found in bark, seeds, flowers, stems, roots, and plants. Essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumoral, and anti-fungal naturally. Amazing, right? They are also lipophilic which allows them to destroy viruses that antibiotics may not be able to. You can use essential oils to clean your home and heal your body. My favorite uses for essential oils are:

* Peppermint: Apply to temples for a great headache reliever.

* Lemon: Rub into your hands for an amazing alcohol-free sanitizer.

* Tangerine: Add to your homemade house cleaner as a disinfectant.

* Grapefruit: Inhale for 60 seconds for the perfect appetite suppressant.

* Lavender: Inhale for 60 seconds to alleviate depression. and stress.

Do you feel better? What do you use essential oils for?

Green Tip: Unlucky #7

Bisphenol A (a.k.a BPA) was created in the 1930s as synthetic estrogen and is found in Plastic #7, in items such items as microwaveable containers and baby bottles. It stimulates the action of estrogen and disrupts the production of hormones. I check the bottom of items that I purchase to make sure it isn’t plastic #7. You can find BPA free items now, they are easy to find!

Do you avoid BPA?
