HOW TO: Organic Orange Julius Smoothie Recipe

I remember loving an Orange Julius smoothie when I was a kid. You too? While Eben and I were home all weekend (due to his knee injury), we were craving a sweet treat. I came up with our own version of an Orange Julius. It was fantastic! Want to make one too?

What you will need:

– 1 cup organic milk
– 2 tsp organic vanilla extract
– 6 ounces of organic orange juice (frozen)
– 1/4 cup organic sugar

Blend well and enjoy.

Have a Lovely Green Weekend + A Few Green Things

Hello Friends. How are you enjoying spring? Is it warming up where you live? It is so warm and sunny here in Florida – we really can not get enough of it. We have plans of spending the weekend lounging by the pool and snorkeling in the big blue sea.

The mister and I are spending the afternoon relaxing by the pool. Ok, the mister is swimming laps and I am reading and relaxing by the pool. There really isn’t a better way to get ready for the weekend, no? While I catch up on my reading, here are a few green things I have been meaning to share with you.

Interruption! —- Seriously, while I was typing my few green things to share with you, Eben’s school called. He cut his knee entirely open while playing capture the flag. I had to jump in the car and rush over to the emergency room. He is doing much better after 8 stitches across his knee. Wow. I am thankful that he goes to a fabulous school with an amazing staff that rushed him to the emergency room and took great care of him until I could get there! After, they stitched him up, they told us — no swimming or tub time for 10 days. I think this broke Eben’s heart a little bit. {wink} However, he was excited to spend the afternoon with his bestie! The best part his bestie’s mom is my bestie! And you can always have fun with your bestie, even if you can’t bend your knee. Right?

Now back to a few green things to get your weekend started.

– These are probably the most fantastic green roofs I have ever seen. Fact.
– I think Eben and I must conduct a worm census. Tomorrow.
– I hope to be invited to a large scale dinner party at least once in my lifetime. {intro photo}
– I want to live in the greenest apartment in New York City. Please?

I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

xo,
Sweet Greens

Meditation Can Help Improve Your Child’s School Performance

Transcendental Meditation can have a profound impact on many facets of our lives and a new study shows that it can also improve children’s academic performance. The study conducted at a California public middle school on 189 students showed that 41 percent of the meditating students gained at least one level in math performance. Students with the lowest levels of academic performance showed a significant improvement in overall academic achievement.  If Transcendental Meditation can improve middle school students’ academic performance then why not try meditation with younger children? Plus, there’s a chance you may find it’s beneficial to other areas of your child’s lifestyle. Speaking from personal experience I can tell you that Transcendental Meditation has affected Eben’s life. I recently wrote about ways to implement meditation into your child’s lifestyle at Inhabitots. You can add it to your own lifestyle too!

The Story of Bottled Water

Have you seen the Story of Stuff series? Somehow I missed this one about bottled water. Did you know that bottled water costs more than 2000x as much as tap water? Not to mention the HUGE impact it is having on the environment. Isn’t it amazing what fear, seduction and lies can make people do (buy bottled water)? Even if you do not purchase bottled watter, (good for you!) this little video is full of great information that you can pass on to others.

What is your favorite bottled water alternative?

The Living Space | Eco-Friendly Home Decor | Fort Collins, Colorado

I was going through my pictures from our last days in Fort Collins, Colorado and came across pictures from my trip to The Living Space. It’s a lovely little shop in Old Town, full of many eco-friendly home decor items, including this sweet Recycled Rover. (first picture) It opened a few days before our big move and I had to stop in and check it out before we left. If you live in Fort Collins or will be in town, you should definitely stop by and take a peek.
