I love children’s books, they are one of my passions. I have been collecting them since I was a young adult. In fact, one of the first gifts that Mr. Sweet Greens ever bought me was a subscription to the Dr. Seuss Club. I was so excited, how lovely to receive 2 Dr. Seuss books in the mail each month, no? I have also started to write two or three children’s books over the years, one was about my cat ‘Toby’ {who is now 16 years old} and one was about a Rhinoceros couple who counted animals for fun. So when I received a set of Little Green Books in the mail to review, I have to admit I was a giddy and couldn’t wait to sit down and devour them all. The results:: They are fantastic and a must have for any home. Especially if, you have been looking for a way to get your little ones excited about going green. If your children are already excited, then maybe you have been looking for a great way to teach them more about recycling, reusing, endangered animals, gardening or global warming. If so, Little Green Books is your solution. Little Green Books is a new Eco-friendly series from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division. Each book in the Little Green Books series is devoted to educating children about the benefits that going green will bring.
Eben and I have really enjoyed our set of Little Green Books. We love the ideas that the books teach, the process in which they teach {such as how an aluminum can is recycled} is entertaining and just plain fun. We love the color and illustration and that every book is made from 100% post consumer waste recycled paper and printed with either veggie or soy ink. {Fantastic!} The Little Green Books series is also super affordable and will fit almost any budget. These would also make lovely gifts for Valentine’s Day, Earth Day or birthdays. Eben really enjoyed the ‘Easy to be Green’ book because it is full of simple activities that are prefect for his age {8}. He is super interested in saving the environment and this book made learning new ways to help, fun.
Little Green Books are geared towards newborns {age 0} to children up to age of 8. Every Little Green Book has a full glossary of terms to help children and adults alike learn the meaning of new words that they may not be familiar with. This makes explaining the ideas in the book with your children easier. For example, if you don’t know how to explain ‘post consumer waste’ to your little one, Little Green Books has you covered, just flip to the glossary and go.
Also, the Green Little Books website is full of downloadable activities that you can do with your children this winter. There are activity pages, games, green tips, challenges and kits that are perfect for Earth Day or anyday. How fun is that?

Hello Dear Readers, how was your week? Was it chilly, like mine? I am very much ready for summer, can you tell? Winter is lovely but I am ready for the heat.
What are your weekend plans? Tonight Eben and I are on our own, until Mr. Sweet Greens gets off work @ 7:30 pm. After dinner, we are going to catch the bus and go to ‘The Chocolate Cafe’. Shhhh…Eben doesn’t know this, its a surprise. The Chocolate Cafe is a lovely little place in our old town. It has been voted as Fort Collins Best Place for Dessert and Eben has been dying to go there. Eben loves, loves, loves chocolate so I thought this would be a lovely little surprise. Who wouldn’t love to hang out at a place called ‘The Chocolate Cafe’, no?
After our dessert date, we are meeting Mr. Sweet Greens at the theatre to see the 2009 Grammy nominated Brady Rymer and the Little Band that could. Think American roots-rock with a feel good R&B foundation. We love music and the theatre so this should be fun, right?
The rest of the weekend should be pretty laid back and relaxing. I am thinking of plenty of time next to the fire, family reading time, a visit to our lovely library and maybe a stop by my favorite fancy grocery store.

Last, Sunday we decided to visit one of our favorite places to walk along the river. We love this place so much because it is quiet, lovely and has a small bird sanctuary at the beginning. It is fantastic to look at the beautiful owls, vultures, hawks and golden and bald eagles that have been rescued.
Then we went for a lovely little walk along the river viewing the natural frozen beauty. It is amazing how things look so different in the wintertime. It was amazing to see parts of the river frozen, with the water rushing through the ice.
I love to see the wildlife doing it’s thing regardless of the weather. We saw bluebirds coming in and out of holes in old fallen trees. A large blue heron hunting for fish in the river and ducks lazily taking their baths as if it were spring time. There is a lovely little bridge that crosses over to another walking area that Eben was fascinated with. He loved that the water was frozen below us, he wanted so badly to walk on it.
It was fun to watch our dogs {Lilly and Sadie} plow through the snow, and watch Eben discover leaves, rocks and other hidden objects while we walked. The cold air was invigorating and the sound of our boots sloshing and slopping in the snow made us giggle. It is also amazing to me that little kids never get cold outside. Eben was in and out of the snow so much, that I worried that he would be soaked. He also loves to pick up the snow, taste it and play with it. Yet he never complained.
When we finished walking for the day, I looked forward to the hot tea awaiting our arrival in the car. I am always thankful that Mr. Sweet Greens plans ahead.
