Earth Friendly Etsy Giveaway: Polarity Recycled Locket

I love jewelry, especially when it is jewelry that is made from upcyling something else. I think that anytime we can take something that no longer works, is old or worn out and make it into something new, is fabulous. You can find some of the most unique and funky jewelry finds when the artist is working with upcycled materials. Almost always you will find that their jewelry is like nothing you have seen before and you won’t see anyone else wearing the exact same piece.

Recently, I found Polarity and this fabulous jewelry company does just that, takes someone old and makes something fabulous. Polarity is a jewelry company owned by a mom named Catherine Ivins and is located on the Jersey Shore. Catherine makes fabulous necklaces from recycled auto parts. The necklaces have magnetic design lids that are interchangeable. This gives you a necklace that can be made into many different necklaces.

Catherine uses repurposed and sustainable materials in unique and beautiful ways all the while, leaving the smallest possible carbon footprint in her wake. To make her wonderful lockets she uses recycled steel parts because steel has many advantages due to its distinctive environmental fingerprint. Catherine says that more than 1/2 of the steel we see has already been recycled from scrap. It takes at least 60% less energy to produce steel from scrap than it does from iron ore. Waste disposal problems are lessened because steel can be recycled over and over again and it’s magnetic properties make it easier to separate in the waste stream.

Catherine has been so great to offer ONE of my lucky readers a Blackoutwell Locket. (mischievous fox and cat design) These lockets are designed by the very talented artist Amy Blackoutwell. This necklace comes with 3 interchangeable lids. (one of each, a fox, cat and the definition of mischievous) Catherine’s lockets are 1 1/4″ in size, have a 30″ 2mm nickel brass ball chain and 3 different lids.

Fab Green Find:: Nordic Berries {Giveaway!}

The best way that you can assure that your child is getting the proper amount of vitamins and minerals is by preparing meals for them that include a variety of healthy and yummy foods. This can sound easier than it may be. What if you have a child who doesn’t get all of the nutrition that they need or shuns fruits, veggies or meals that are high in protein and whole grains? Children’s Vitamins may be a helpful resource to make sure that your kiddo is getting the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals. A good place to start is with a multi-mineral/multi-vitamin and an omega-3 fatty acid supplement. Just make sure that the vitamins taste good.

I purchased Eben a bottle of gummy vitamins from one of our favorite stores, I thought for sure since they were gummy that he would gobble them up. For weeks, I thought this is what he was doing. That was until one day while I was cleaning up his bathroom, a rainbow of color in the heat vent caught my eye. I thought to myself that he probably stuck a toy in there and removed the vent to get a closer look. To my horror, it was not a toy, but a huge, I mean HUGE, pile of gummy vitamins. {Thank goodness it wasn’t winter, the heat would have melted it into an even bigger mess. When he came home from school, I asked him about it and he said, “They don’t taste good.” Needless to say, I didn’t give him more of those vitamins.

About a month ago we received a bottle of Nordic Berries from Nordic Naturals in the mail. I opened the box and thought to myself, ” Great more vitamins for the heat vent? ” To my surprise though, Eben loves these ones. He said, ” They taste like orange candies with sugar on top. You know the one’s that grandmas always have at their houses.” He loves them so much, that he asks to have them each morning with breakfast. This is a first in our house. He loves the taste and I love that there are no artificial colorings, gelatin, flavorings, or preservatives and that the vitamins contain only organic tapioca syrup, organic evaporated cane juice, pectin, citric acid, rice syrup solids, natural flavor and sodium citrate. Did I mention that the bottle states that these are for adults and kids alike? I have to admit, I tried them and I like them too. {yum}

The label is cute too and states:: Nordic folklore says, at twilight trolls gather cloudberries found along the banks of the fjord waters. Rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, cloudberries have a delicious sweet and sour taste. The label has a cute picture of trolls collecting the berries. {super cute}

Do you have a little one or could you yourself could use a good multi-vitamin that tastes yummy? I am giving away a bottle of 120 gummy berries to ONE lovely reader.

Green Tips:: Don’t Get Burned.

If you have a toaster oven or a small brick oven, use it whenever possible over your full size conventional oven. Toaster and brick ovens take less energy to run and are especially effective if you are only reheating a slice of last night’s pizza. {just remember to unplug it when not in use.}

Do you have a toaster or brick oven?
When type do you have?
