Take A Look at Wallpaper as an Environmentally Friendly Alternative to Paint

With the increasing awareness of environmental sustainability, people are now actively seeking eco-friendly alternatives in various aspects of their lives, including home improvement. Wallpaper emerges as an option for design compared to traditional paint. Check out some of the advantages of wallpaper over paint, emphasizing how this choice contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to home decor.

There are quite a few reasons why wallpaper can be a better choice than paints regarding environmental impact.  Here are a few that may make you change your mind about painting your walls and option for wallpaper instead.

  • Reduced Environmental Impact During Production

The production process of wallpaper generally has a lower impact when compared to the manufacturing of paint. Wallpaper is often made from materials such as paper, grasscloth, or recycled fibers, which can be sourced and produced in a sustainable manner. This eco-friendly production approach helps reduce harm to the environment associated with manufacturing.

  • Increased Lifespan and Durability

Wallpaper tends to have a lifespan and more excellent durability than paint. If properly maintained, high-quality wallpapers can last for years without needing replacement. This extended lifespan reduces the frequency of renovations required and minimizes material consumption over time compared to the repainting needs associated with traditional paint.

  • Environmentally Friendly Materials and Inks

Firstly, paints often contain chemicals, like organic compounds (VOCs), that may be released into the air during and after application. On the other hand, wallpapers, those made from natural or low-emission materials, emit fewer toxic substances. This makes them a healthier and more eco-friendly option for households for people with sensitivities or allergies.  Also, most wallpaper will be printed using latex inks, which are water-based and non-toxic.

  • Easy To Remove and Recycle

Another advantage of wallpaper is its removal process. Unlike paint that requires sanding and labor methods for removal, wallpapers can be peeled off cleanly with little residue left behind. This saves time. It also facilitates recycling as wallpaper materials can be collected and processed more efficiently.

  • Sustainability

Many wallpaper manufacturers now offer eco options made from recycled paper, bamboo, or grasscloth materials. Homeowners can actively contribute to preserving ecosystems and biodiversity by choosing wallpapers made from resources.

  • Energy Efficient

Applying wallpaper generally requires less energy than painting. The production and application of paint involve energy-intensive processes, including mixing, tinting, and drying. Wallpaper, on the other hand, often involves less energy consumption in both manufacturing and installation, making it a more energy-efficient option for eco-minded individuals.

  • Less Water Consumption

When applying wallpaper, less water is typically needed than when painting. Traditional painting involves using water or solvent-based paints that require water for mixing, cleaning brushes, and diluting. With pre-pasted wallpaper options, the wallpaper application reduces water usage and contributes to conservation efforts in home improvement projects.

  • Customized Sustainability

As consumer demand for products grows, wallpaper manufacturers are also stepping up by offering various eco-friendly options. This allows homeowners to select wallpapers that align with their sustainability preferences through features like recycled content, sourced materials, or compliance with strict environmental standards.

In pursuing sustainable living practices, deciding between wallpaper and paint for home decoration holds environmental implications. Wallpaper emerges as an alternative that embodies sustainability principles due to its eco-friendly production processes, longer lifespan compared to paint, and potential for recycling. Opting for wallpaper over paint allows individuals to embrace a more environmentally conscious approach to interior design, resulting in visually appealing spaces while also being mindful of the environment.

So if you are looking for a wallpaper that checks all the boxes, look at Love vs. Design.  They offer a product called Glissade that is 100% paper-based and is printed using nontoxic water-based inks, so from beginning to end, it is a great eco-friendly.

How to Craft a St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Trap

Everyone knows how sneaky and mischievous Leprechauns can be – especially around St. Patrick’s Day. They leave a trail of gold or green glitter footprints and can make a terrible mess when they are looking for that pot o’ gold. This St. Patrick’s Day, be prepared and make a Leprechaun trap. If you trap one of these little, diminutive men you will have your choice of either his pot o’ gold or three wishes!

What you will need:

– an empty box (large enough to fit a Leprechaun)
– a piece of cardboard (the same length as your empty box)
– multiple pieces of colorful paper
– cutting tool
– scissors
– eco-friendly packing tape
– pencil and markers
– something to use as a “pot o’ gold”
– leftover yellow eco-felt
– coins and something that smells yummy (we used a stick of gum)

Step 1: Design the Trap

I did this project with Eben when he was little, he was so intrigued by the idea of actually capturing a Leprechaun and insisted that he only wanted to see one and take its photograph. Then, of course, he would release it. I asked him to sit down with pencil and paper and design the perfect trap in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. He did so with delight and your child will enjoy being the brainchild behind the project, too.

Step 2: Build the Trap

Once your child has designed the trap, get to work creating it. We taped a piece of cardboard to the back of the empty box to hold the rainbow. We also taped the empty box closed and then covered it with white office paper scraps.

Step 3: Add the Rainbow

Using scissors, let your child cut out several rainbow stripes to create a backdrop rainbow above the trap, secure with eco-friendly packing tape.

Step 4: Make the Pot o’ Gold

Cover a small cylinder-shaped object for the pot o’ gold in leftover black paper scraps. We used a pencil sharpener covered in black paper, however, you could use a small jar, food container, or even a toilet paper roll cut in half.

Step 5: Create the Trap Doors

Place your pot o’ gold at the “end of the rainbow” and mark three places to cut the holes that the Leprechaun will fall into (while trying to steal your gold) using your cutting tool.

Step 6: Disguise the Trap Doors

Using leftover blue paper, cut out three clouds that will cover the trap holes. Place the clouds over the holes. When the Leprechaun steps on the clouds to reach the pot of gold, he will fall in and become trapped inside the box.

Step 7: Decorate the Trap

Give your child creature control and a stack of markers or crayons to decorate the outside of the trap any way that they would like. Just remember that Leprechauns like “outdoor” colors and are attracted to bright, shiny objects. My son also decided to use a leftover piece of cardboard to create a ladder, so the Leprechaun could climb up to the pot o’ gold.

Step 8: Set the Trap

Fill the pot with gold coins that you made from the leftover eco-felt. We also mixed in real coins and a piece of bubblegum. (My son was positive the Leprechauns would be attracted to the minty scent.) Place the pot o’ gold in between the three traps.

Step 9: Leave the Trap and Wait

Find a quiet place for your Leprechaun trap. My son chose the counter in our kitchen because he thought the Leprechauns may be looking for food. However, you can also place your trap outside among the trees and bushes, since this is one of the places that Leprechauns tend to frequent. Then, smile with delight as your child periodically checks to see if the trap has been sprung. Just maybe, by St. Patrick’s Day, your child will find a Leprechaun in the trap, if not – hopefully “Mr. Leprechaun” left a small surprise or his green and gold glitter footprints.

Spend the afternoon with your littles creating a Leprechaun trap and they will be engrossed in the entire process from design to set-up and will be checking the trap consistently. Your little one can get in on the St. Patrick’s Day crafting fun by following our easy Leprechaun trap how to.

Arranging a Surprise Picnic for Your Son’s 21st Birthday

A son’s 21st birthday is a significant milestone in a parent’s life. It is the day that your child becomes an adult and enters a new stage of life. Many parents choose to celebrate this special occasion with a big party, but what if you want to do something different? Why not arrange a surprise picnic for your son? This can be a fun and unique way to mark his 21st birthday. This blog post will discuss how to go about arranging a surprise picnic for your son and also provide tips on choosing the right location, preparing food and drinks, and setting up the perfect picnic atmosphere!

1) Choosing the Right Location:

The first step in arranging a surprise picnic for your son is to select the perfect location. Of course, you could decide to have the picnic at home, but if you want it to be even more unique, why not choose an eco-friendly outdoor destination for an eco-green picnic? A park or beach would be ideal for this type of event. Depending on your budget, you may also want to consider renting out a picnic space in a private location, such as a botanical garden or winery. This will make the experience that much more memorable.

2) Preparing Food and Drinks:

Picnic food should be simple and easy to eat without making a mess. Finger foods like sandwiches, wraps, salads and you can discover the easiest and tastiest hash brown recipe, these are usually all good options. Don’t forget drinks too! A cooler filled with ice, soda, beer and other beverages will be a welcome addition to the picnic. You could even whip up some homemade cocktails or mocktails if you’re feeling adventurous. In addition, desserts such as cupcakes, cookies or even a cake are great finishing touches.

3) Setting up the Perfect Picnic Atmosphere:

Finally, it’s time to create a fun and inviting atmosphere for your son’s birthday picnic. Invest in some colorful decorations such as streamers, balloons, and flowers. Music is also essential for setting the mood. You could choose anything from chilled-out acoustic tunes to your son’s favorite party music. Last but not least – make sure there are plenty of comfy blankets and pillows available so that everyone can relax and enjoy their meal!

4) Sending out the Invites:

Once you’ve decided on a date and location, it’s time to start sending out the invitations! Try to send them out at least two weeks in advance so that your son has enough time to arrange his own plans. You could even include a special message from yourself, family members, or close friends as an extra surprise for this very SPECIAL picnic.

5) Arrange Entertainment:

You may want to arrange some entertainment activities to make your son’s 21st birthday picnic extra special. This could include lawn games such as badminton or frisbee or just playing music and having a dance party. Furthermore, you could even hire a clown or magician to give the picnic an extra festive feel!

6) Be safe:

No matter what you decide to do, it’s important to remember safety first. Make sure that the picnic area is away from any dangerous areas and that the food is kept safe from contamination. Keep an eye out for any children at the picnic who may need extra supervision, and ensure that all guests are wearing proper clothing, such as hats and sunscreen, if necessary. Arrange a designated driver or uber if necessary.

7) Send home gifts:

Send each of your guests home with something special to remember his big day. You could opt for something simple like a goodie bag filled with treats or personalized gifts such as t-shirts or mugs. Additionally, you could even give out custom-made party favors if the budget allows.

8) Enjoy the Moment:

On the picnic day, don’t forget to step back and enjoy all your hard work! Make sure you capture some photos or videos so your son can reflect on this special occasion in years to come. With a bit of planning and plenty of love, you will be able to create an unforgettable experience for your son on his 21st birthday – happy picnicking.

In conclusion, arranging a surprise picnic for your son’s 21st birthday will surely be an unforgettable experience for both of you. With careful planning and attention to detail, you can create something exceptional that will make this milestone moment even more memorable! Best of luck with the preparations, and have fun!

3 Unexpected Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint This Month

It’s no secret that our choices can greatly impact the environment. However, while recycling can definitely reduce your carbon footprint, there are other methods you can use to help the environment and combat climate change. That said, here are a few unexpected ways you can help the environment.

1. Use Eco-Friendly Servers for Your Internet

You may not give much thought to your internet needs. After all, we’ve all heard that a digital lifestyle is a lot better for the environment than one based on manual operations such as printing out materials. If you’re already cutting back on the waste you produce by making printouts of things and opting to send them online; you can take things a step further. This is by making sure that the servers you use for your internet needs are eco-friendly.

A simple search online should point you toward some eco-friendly servers that have based their operations on sustainability. Keep in mind that the global web hosting services market is forecasted to grow from $102 billion to $321.5 billion by 2025. You should use a server with 480Gbps and advanced DDoS protection for the best experience. You can search for these qualities in the server that promotes green living in order to enjoy good internet without leaving a large carbon footprint.

2. Reduce Pollution by Fixing Your Car

Another way to reduce the carbon footprint you’re leaving on the environment is to fix your car. When your car is running in good condition, it will not only be a lot more efficient, but it will also produce fewer emissions. This is why making sure that your car is in good shape is important for the environment. It’s a good way to hit a number of goals all at once, as you can be sure that you’ll enjoy having a car in great running condition, and so will the environment.

To this end, keep in mind basic car maintenance steps, such as changing your oil every 3,000 miles or as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. You should also have your car serviced at regular intervals so that it’s easy for you to spot any potential issues long before they get out of hand.

3. Shop for Local Produce

Last but not least, you should consider shopping for local produce. Doing this will make you travel a shorter distance to get the produce you need. In this way, you can help ease the demand for produce that needs to get shipped from a long distance away. You’ll increase the demand for local produce and support local producers while enjoying a shorter commute to get your produce.

This will see you use your car less often or on shorter trips, which you can even get done by walking or using a bicycle, both great alternatives for green living. When doing this, you’ll inadvertently lower your carbon emissions and support local farmers who will be motivated to keep producing healthy produce for you and like-minded individuals. Local produce leaves a smaller carbon footprint in its production, so this is going to be an additional benefit for the environment. You’ll eat fresh and healthy produce that will keep you healthy and decrease your dependence on commercially-produced greens that may not be as healthy for you.

In these three unexpected ways, you can reduce your carbon footprint. You’ll make a welcome difference to the environment as well as to your life. You’ll also set a great example to the people around you. With such habits of green living, it may be possible to improve the state of the environment.
