Your child probably enjoys some kinds of fruit – however, many kids often get stuck in a “favorite fruit only” rut requesting apples, bananas, or strawberries for example and turning their noses up at the unknown. But a walk through your local farmers market will prove that summertime offers up a wide variety of colorful, different, and even exotic kinds of fruits, making the season the perfect time to experiment and add more of them to your child’s diet. A great way to introduce new fruits is by presenting them to your child in a fun and exciting way. If your child isn’t a huge fan of certain types of fruits, finding ways to sneak them in is essential for assuring that your child is getting the vitamins and nutrients necessary for optimum health. Here are my six favorite way to make fruit even more fun this summer.
We have a back-to-school meeting with Eben’s fifth grade teacher this morning. Can it be that summer break is almost over? Please, don’t tell Eben, goodness, don’t even mention it to me! It’s true, the kids will be back in school in just a few short weeks or sooner. Eben and I have been spending most of our summer snorkeling, camping, taking nature walks, swimming in the pool, and just soaking up the fun and sun.
Thankfully, we live in South Florida so there is no need to cringe at the thought of snow boots, winter coats and cold, blistery days to come. Now, if only we can get through hurricane season without incident! However, the thought of Eben going back to school is bitter-sweet. We love his school – however, it’s so hard to send him off again, when we have been having so much fun!

We have lived many different places across the United States and there have always been recycling options available. Fort Collins, Colorado had by-far the best recycling options out of all of the places that we have lived. Each home received a large full-size recycling bin that all recyclables could be thrown into. Easy-Peasy.
South Florida has had great options for the run-of-the-mill recyclables (paper, cardboard, plastics, glass) and they offer curbside pickup twice a week, which is good considering the recycling bin itself is tiny!
Georgia was the toughest, we lived in a very rural country area so we had sort all of our recyclables and transport them to the closest recycling center – which was a few miles from our home. The recycling center itself was good, offering recycling services for most recyclables.
The reason this came to mind was when we were looking for a new home, we visited an up-scale condominium neighborhood that had all of the bells and whistles – except zero recycling options. When I asked the salesperson about the recycling options, she looked at me as if I were a little crazy and said, “we don’t offer recycling.” My response – “Well, that is a deal breaker!” She thought I was joking and when I told her I wasn’t she looked at me as if I was clinically insane!
I find it very odd that you can have a pizza, newspaper, your mail and many other items delivered directly to your front door, but recycling services may not be available in your local area. It is really a shame, no?
