Green Tip: Cook and Eat at Home

One of the greenest habits you can have is to cook and eat at home. Eating organic foods that you prepare from scratch, eliminates packaging waste, and a lot of money. Plus, let’s face it, eating out isn’t cheap! Plus, knowing exactly what we are consuming and picking the freshest, whole ingredients is key. And there is just something sweet and romantic about cooking dinner with your family. The coziness of sharing a meal, while enjoying great conversation with the people you love is fantastic.

Do you cook and eat at home?
Or do you prefer to eat out?

Have a Lovely Green Weekend + A Few Green Things

Wow. Eben’s spring break starts today, he will be home for nine whole days. Yay! I love spring break. Mr. Sweet Greens will be working. However, Eben and I are excited to take advantage of the time together – most of which will be spent outside, since it is summer-like here in Southern Florida. Do you have special spring break activities planned to share with your children? Are you doing any arts and crafts or baking? Do you have any suggestions for us? While I start to compile my list of fun activities to do, here are a few green things that I have been meaning to share with you:

– My heart is with the people of Japan – here’s how you can help too.
– I love that the “floating house” in the movie UP is totally doable. Would you dare fly inside?
– Now, if only my house had one of these incredible indoor slides.
– This pirate ship bedroom has to be one of the coolest that I have ever seen.
– I love the idea of an underwater waste recycling skyscraper.
– Organic stripey knee socks? Yes. Please.
– An eco chalkboard ring. How fun!
Bunnies and robins – springtime is here!
– A small part of every weekend should be spent doing this!
– Please join us on Facebook.

Have a super lovely weekend, I will see you here on Monday.

Sweet Greens

HOW TO: Bake Organic Soft Pretzels

My family loves hot soft pretzels, who’s doesn’t? There is just something delicious about a treat that is a little sweet, a little salty and a lot chewy. However, store bought frozen pretzels (nor street vendor pretzels) taste as delicious as a hot organic pretzel fresh from the oven. And what’s even better — making your own organic soft pretzels is easy and a super-fun activity to share with your children. So grab your children and their aprons, and check out my how-to project to learn how to bake organic soft pretzels that you and your family will enjoy.

7 Unique Ways to Show Off your Child’s Artwork

Most children love to create artwork, and between at-home doodles and school projects, your child’s creations can really start to stack up. So we decided to come up with creative ideas for preserving and showing off your child’s artwork in a design-savvy way. After all, as parents we are very proud of our budding artists and find it hard to part with their art, but once the refrigerator and bulletin board are covered, what are we suppose to do with all of these masterpieces? One of the simplest ways to preserve your child’s artwork is by scanning each piece or taking a digital photograph, then recycling. However, if you are like me, the idea of simply tossing original art in the recycling bin is just not an option. There are many other ways that you can preserve your child’s most creative masterpieces, without tossing them in the recycling bin or cluttering up your home. Today I wrote about my favorite 7 ways to use your child’s artwork.

Green Tip: Prescription Take Back Network

You may already know how to properly dispose of your unused prescriptions. However, there are also safe drug disposal programs that will do the work for you such as the Drug Take-Back Network. They collect the unused prescription medication – which are then incinerated. Supposedly, incineration is the most effective and least polluting option available. You can find a take-back location in your local area here.
