Kids. Culture. Coffee. Recycled Art Exhibit

We went to the opening reception of Kids. Culture. Coffee – an art exhibit at our local Starbucks. Eben had a handful of pieces in the exhibit – all with a focus on the art and culture of the Mexican and African coffee lands. Each of the pieces was made using recyclable Starbucks packaging. The best part – when we arrived, Eben was showing me all of his different pieces, what they were made of and what meaning they held. When we came upon his drum (up high on a shelf), he exclaimed, ” Oh no! It is upside down and backwards!” A Starbucks employee quickly sprang into action, grabbing a step ladder and repositioning the drum exactly to Eben’s specifications. Talk about customer service! Here are some photos of the exhibit:

How to Build a See-Through Children’s Composter

Have you been looking for a super fun way to get your children involved in composting? Or a great activity to get your children involved in Earth Day? Eben and I made a children’s see through composter which turned out to be a great way to show him how composting works. Not to mention, a super fun way to spend the afternoon. It is very easy to make and since it is see through, your child can see the composting happen right before their eyes. Jump over to my blog at Cascadian Farm for the directions and enjoy a fun afternoon with your child. Then come back and tell me what you think. If you decide to build one, I would love to see pictures. You can upload them to the Sweet Greens Flickr Group.

Would you build a see through children’s composter?
Do you think this is an activity that your child would enjoy?
