Happy April Fool’s Day

Happy April Fool’s Day! How fun. Do you have a special little trick up your sleeve for your little one? I dyed Eben’s milk bright red this morning using veggie dyes. He couldn’t get over it, he just kept asking, ‘how did you do that?’ I have a few more tricks up my sleeve for after school. Do you?

What are your April Fool’s Day plans?

Gabriel’s Aunt: Win A Lemon Bar Candle Giveaway!

This week’s Earth friendly Etsy shop is Gabriel’s Aunt owned by Nikki Sherrit in Seattle Washigton. Gabriel’s Aunt is a fabulous natural perfume and candle shop that also specializes in lovely bath products. Gabriel’s Aunt has been in business for over 7 years. The candles at Gabriel’s Aunt are made without any synthetic, petroleum-based fragrance oil or colors. Nikki only uses plant-derived essential oils, absolutes, no GMO plant waxes and butters. How fantastic is that?

When asked what inspires her, Nikki says that she loves the smell of real plants, herbs, flowers and resins. She also finds inspiration in cooking and hiking through the Pacific Northwest. She is a huge lover of natural bath products and sometimes will combine different soaps and lotions to come up with something fun and new. Nikki also loves living in Seattle and spending time with her boyfriend and fur babies.
Gabriel’s Aunt uses all recycled packing materials when shipping to customers. Everything is somehow used again or thrown into the recycle or compost bins. She also recently changed her larger glass candle’s packaging to limit the waste. When covering the candles for shipping, she uses a recycled paper seed top. You can also return the candle container to Gabriel’s Aunt and receive a discount on your next order. Nikki is currently working to expand her line with more custom blends. You can expect more fabulous products to come.
Nikki at Gabriel’s Aunt has been so lovely to offer one of my fantastic readers a delicious and tart Lemon Bar Candle with Lemon Lime and Butter. Yummy.

Organic DIY: Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

It was a nice and warm spring day here yesterday. The mister and I sat on our front porch sipping cups of ginger peach tea. When Eben came home, we made a children’s see through composter (more info coming soon). Eben and I decided that it is the perfect time of year to make ice cream sandwiches. So, I was excited to see these directions for making your own ice cream sandwiches at Twig and Thistle. The only change that I would make is to use organic ingredients, of course. Can you guess what Eben and I will be doing this weekend?

How about you lovely readers, is your weather heating up?

How Do You Slow Down at Night?

The mister and I have started a new nightly routine at our home and it has made a huge difference in the way I feel. Instead of watching television before bedtime, we have started to read while having a cup of chamomile tea. I have noticed since starting this new routine that I sleep more soundly through the night and when I wake up at 5 am, I feel refreshed and ready to take on my day. I have also found that it makes me feel more relaxed and ready for a good night’s rest.  I believe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

How about you lovely readers, what is your bedtime routine?

Do you watch television?
Catch up on work?
Read a good book?
