Make Waste Free Lunch a Reality in 2014 with a Reusable Lunch Box System

Have you been looking for an environmentally friendly lunchbox for school, work or on-the-go that is also stylish and functional? If so, have you considered a bento box? I love the way each food item has it’s own area, keeping dry foods dry and dips and sauces under control.

We have used bento style lunch boxes for many years and feel that they are a very convenient option that is easy to use, safe (especially the stainless steel and glass versions) and easy to clean.

Tweet: Tip: If all school aged children used a waste-free lunchbox, it would save 1.2 billion pounds of landfill waste annually. @SweetGreens

Happy New Year’s Eve + 3 Eco-Friendly Tips for Your Celebration

Hello, Friends! Have you been enjoying the holidays? I have to admit, it was super nice to take a few days off to spend exclusively with my favorite people!

Do you have any fun plans for New Year’s Eve? Some years we stay in – other years we go out, I think one of my favorite New Year’s Eve was 1st Night in Fort Collins, Colorado. However, this year the mister doesn’t get home from work until 8:30 p.m. – so we are celebrating the New Year at home with a family dinner and game night. I am very much looking forward to it!

Whether you are staying at home for a quiet evening or going out to a festive party, you can make your New Year’s Eve more eco-friendly, here are my 3 tips to get you started:

1. Stay Local
When deciding on how to spend your New Year’s Eve consider plans that don’t require going far. Whether you decide to stay at home, spend the evening with nearby friends and family or ride your bicycle to a local restaurant – staying local is key. It is also nice to be very close to home, if you plan on having a drink or two – plus, I have to admit I am not a fan of being on the road on NYE.

2. Eat Local
Since we are celebrating at home this year, we will be eating very local. We hit our favorite market last night to pick up all of the ingredients for a yummy Japanese inspired meal at home. If you don’t feel like staying home and cooking – grab a bite from a local restaurant in your neighborhood.

3. Drink Local
Since we are dining in this year, we will be enjoying organic wines with our dinner. Check your local grocery and liquor stores for their organic local offerings. If you are going out for the evening, check the wine menu, many local restaurants will carry local and organic wines – you just have to look or ask for them.

I would love to hear your plans, please leave them below!

Celebrate the Holidays with Sustainable Wines from Parducci

If you are looking for an organic and bio-dynamic wine to add to your holiday table this holiday season – look no further than Parducci Wine Cellars. We celebrated both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah with Parducci and both times our guests raved! Not only are these wines amazing tasting, they are super affordable too!

The 2012 Pinot Noir went fantastically well with our Hanukkah dinner: cabbage rolls, kugel, latkes and challah. It is a medium bodied red with aromas of juicy raspberries and strawberries and a hint of cedar at the finish. Yum!

We served the 2010 Cabernet Sauvingnon at our Thanksgiving dinner and with it’s rich flavors of plum and vanilla, it complimented the turkey perfectly.

We have plans to enjoy some other Parducci wines during New Year’s Eve – I am thinking the 2012 Chardonnay!

If you hurry, you can still get Parducci for the holidays, and right now shipping is included when you buy four bottles or more.

G.H. Cretors Popped Corn is a Fun Holiday Snack for Green Families

Hello, Friends! Are you ready for the holidays? We are super excited! I am counting down the days until Eben is home for 16 days. I can’t wait to spend all of this time with him!

I am excited for him to open his Blue Orange Games and G.H. Cretors Popped Corn. Have you tried G.H. Cretors Popped Corn? Oh my goodness, it’s our favorite popped corn. Eben and I are total fans of the Chicago Mix – because he loves salty and I have a sweet tooth! I think we have enough for game and movie nights for the entire month of January! It’s going to be a great holiday vacation!

Besides the delicious taste, we love that the popped corn are made using no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners and they are gluten-free too! If you haven’t tried G.H. Cretors Popped Corn yet, I would highly recommend it! We gave it away as holiday gifts to friends and family this year – that is how much we love it!
