Hello, Friends! Things are moving along quite well on our mini trip to Florida. We have decided that we are going to rent for awhile, once we officially become Florida residents. We decided to rent because we don’t want to rush into purchasing a home, only to decide later that we wish we would have bought in a different neighborhood, school zone or picked a different home. It just sounds like a safer bet at this point and isn’t as stressful, don’t you agree?
Also, Mr. Sweet Greens received a job offer yesterday and starts work here in Florida on Monday. Yes, this Monday, as in 3 days. Can you believe it? Eben and I will be traveling back to Colorado on Sunday to start packing our belongings. Then, Mr. Sweet Greens will fly home Thursday to get our car and pop up camper (and anything that we can fit inside them) to drive back to Florida over the weekend. He will then fly back sometime in the next 2 weeks to help me pack up our moving van and make the cross country trip one more time. He is such a trooper, if I had to drive cross country twice I think I would cry. Really.
Poor little Eben came down with a fever and the chills yesterday, so we have been snuggled up in bed together watching television, reading and playing his Nintendo DS. I hope he will be feeling better soon because he really wanted to hit the beach a couple of times before we leave on Sunday. Either way, he will have plenty of beach time in his near future.
How has your week been? Has it been as busy as mine? Are you moving soon?
P.S. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and love as the Sweet Greens’ family makes this huge transition. We really appreciate it, you are the best!
We just arrived home from our road trip to Tucson, Arizona and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Whew! That was a long drive, but worth missing the cold and rainy weather here in Colorado. We were met by fantastic weather, beautiful scenery and fabulous food in both Tucson and Santa Fe. It was relaxing to have a few days away with my boys. Here is the breakdown of our long weekend trip.
Day 1
We woke up in our casita (that I rented via Airbnb) and enjoyed the peace and quiet on our patio while we sipped our coffee, watched the birds play in the bird bath, lizards crawling on the trees and our dogs playing in the yard.
Then we ventured out to spend the day in Tucson. We visited the Historic Sam Hughes area, large downtown, did a little shopping on 4th Street and enjoyed a fantastic late lunch at Maynard’s Market and Kitchen. Maynard’s Market and Kitchen is in Historic Downtown Tucson. Maynard’s Market stocks locally sourced products and the kitchen side boosts home style meals with a emphasis on seasonal foods. Think – your favorite classic recipes, with a sophisticated, haute twist. I enjoyed the Cheese Tartine, a grilled Jarlsberg peasant bread served open faced with marinated red onion, fresh tomatoes and watercress. Really? Does it get better than that?

Day 2
We spent the day checking out the local scenery and immediately fell in love with the Saguaro Cacti. I have spent most of my life living in lush green areas, so I was unprepared for the landscape of the desert. I found the mountains and valleys full of those anthropomorphic cacti, The Saguaro, fascinating. They are very prolific across the Sonora desert and they looked as if an alien species had taken up residence there. We enjoyed driving in Saguaro National Park and seeing the mountain side covered in these large alien like plants. We couldn’t help but giggle.
Later that evening we had dinner at Cafe PocaCasa, it is Mexican food restaurant with a twist. It’s bold, imaginative and when served, looked more like artwork than food. We ordered the platoPocaCosa, which is a trio of dishes chosen by the chef. The menu is written on a portable chalkboard that the server presents to your table with the menu changing daily, you never know what you are going to get. My favorite dish was the chicken with a dark mole sauce, it was the perfect mix of chocolaty sweet and spicy. Fantastic, right?

Day 3
We enjoyed our third day in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We spent our time strolling the plaza, looking at the fantastic turquoise jewelry, snapping pictures of the lovely stores, galleries, restaurants, boutiques and churches.
We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Cafe Pasquale, a tiny restaurant that seats only fifty people at a time. The restaurant is fun, brightly colored and festive. The food was fabulous and they only offer high quality organic and naturally raised beef, pork, eggs, dairy, produce, sugars, flours, maple syrup, flavorings and spices. My favorite was dessert – it was Eben’s turn to choose dessert and he chose the Strawberry Shortcake, which was hands down the best that I have ever tasted. Think – organic cornmeal shortcake stacked high with fresh ripe organic berries and homemade cream. Yum. Yum.

All in all, it was a lovely way to escape for the weekend with my family. Want to see more pictures of our trip? Click here to see pictures through the eyes of a nine year old, all our pictures were taken by Eben on this trip.
How was your weekend? Did you eat any fabulous foods? Go somewhere new?
I am so glad that Spring is finally here and with is bicycle weather. Isn’t it fun to just jump on your bicycle to go the market, library or just to feel the wind in your hair as you peddle around your neighborhood? Can you tell that I love bicycles? I also love, love, love cargo bicycles. The ability to take your children and dogs with you is fantastic. And picking up some groceries from the market in this type of bicycle is super easy and convenient. Isn’t this Mobii Cargo Trike from Velorbis fantastic?
Giveaway number 4 is for the wee little ones in your life and just happens to be from my favorite line of children’s green books. This is a fantastic collection of colorful, educational and fun books from Little Green Books. With titles such as, ‘The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle’, ‘The Adventures of an Aluminum Can’ and ‘I Can Save the Ocean!’, how could a child not get excited about saving the Earth? Little Green Books is a new series that will get your little ones excited about going green. They will learn everything from recycling to endangered animals to gardening. The stories are fun, the pictures are captivating and each book is made from Eco friendly materials. Do you want to read more about what I loved about our Little Green Books? If so, you can click here.
Eben and I received the entire collection and we really love, love, love them. Eben was delighted with the fun story lines and he found the glossary at the end of each book to be helpful when it came to terms such as ‘post consumer’. We also enjoyed reading ‘Mama Miti’ the story of a woman who changes her country one tree at a time. It is a beautiful story that your family will treasure for years and years to come.
I truly believe that one of the simplest ways to reconnect and bond with your children, is to read to them. It isn’t just the stories that you share, it is the reinforcement of love between a child and their parent and the true joy of being together. I think that reading and learning together is something special that will always remain with your child.
Little Green Books is giving one of my readers a set of 5 Little Green Books to share with and build a love for the environment with your child.

Our family loves, loves, loves to go camping. Ever since the sun started to come out here in Colorado, the sunny 40º weather has us thinking about springtime and camping. Did I just talk about 40º weather as if it we summer? Crazy. Anyhow, since we have several 3 days camping adventures and one 10 day planned so far, we are seriously considering purchasing a camper. The only problem is, we need one that is small enough to be towed by our car, that will fit in our garage, sleeps at least 3 {plus 2 dogs} and it absolutely has to have a shower. Right now, we are leaning towards a pop up camper, but I would love to hear your suggestions.
Lovely readers, can you suggest a camper for my family? Do you have a camper? What do you love or dislike about it? Are there features that you couldn’t live without? Features that aren’t worth the money? Where are your favorite places to go camping?
