Physical Geography Project: Interior Slice of the Earth from Eco-Friendly Clay

Eben has been working on a 3-D project for Physical Geography – his project: create an interior slice of the earth showing its layers. He sketched a drawing of what he wanted his project to look like and that he planned to make it out of clay.

This worked perfectly for me – I had gifted him with a large stack of Plastilina modeling clay from Stubby Pencil Studio last Hanukkah, so the only other supplies he needed were a piece of paper from the recycling bin and a handful of wooden toothpicks. I love to watch him create things with his hands!

Would you like to see the finished project?

When your child has school projects, do you use eco-friendly art supplies and materials from your recycling bin?

Haha, you bought all the Alpino clay from Stubby Pencil. I attempted to order it around the same time. I was wondering why they were suddenly out! Hope that stuff becomes readily available in the U.S. Eco-friendly clay is popping up in clay animation around the globe but the clay itself has to be imported and that’s expensive. Maybe Van Aken will release their own version. From an animator’s standpoint, that would be great to see.
